The public discussion on the Action Plan for the protection of the European souslik in Bulgaria was heled in Sofia

On 27 February, at the National Museum of Natural History, Sofia the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds organized a public discussion on the “National Action Plan for the protection of the European souslik (Spermophilus citellus) in Bulgaria 2018-2017” with author Dr. Jordan Koshev, IBER-BAS.

The meeting was attended by representatives of scientific and conservation organizations with experience in the conservation of the European souslik - Executive Environment Agency at the Ministry of Environment and Water, Central Balkan National Park Directorate, Vitosha Nature Park Directorate, Rila Nature Park Directorate, Faculty of Biology of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ", IBER-BAS, NMNHS-BAS, BSPB, Green Balkans and WWF Bulgaria. During the discussion many general comments on the plan were made, as well as specific recommendations for improving the part of the activities and measures to preserve the species.

The Action Plan is developed under the project “Restoration and sustainable management of Imperial Eagle’s foraging habitats in key Natura 2000 sites in Bulgaria” (LIFE14 NAT/BG/001119) co-funded under the LIFE Program of the European Union.
